Wakeboard towers
Wakeboard towers are the strong, mid-boat frameworks to
which the wakeboarder’s rope attaches. The towers originated to
raise the rope’s attachment point and allow more freedom to perform
tricks as a result. Before the towers existed, wakeboarders made use
of extended ski pylons. These seven-foot tall poles were first manufactured
by the company Skylon.
Wakeboard towers today are sturdier than the earlier altered ski pylons.
The tower’s design also gets rid of the support cables, which
were obtrusive and often considered unsightly. Along with getting the
cable out of the way, the structures allow boards to be stored on a
rack and off the deck. There are additional tower accessories that benefit
the wakeboarding experience, such as speaker systems, lighting systems,
and sun shades.
Because wakeboard towers are a useful and ideal recreational feature,
many new wakeboard and water ski boats have the option of including
the tower. A new boat could conveniently come with a factory-installed
tower, but the choice of additional features may be limited. Many boat
dealerships will not have the towers pre-installed for this reason and
instead will deal with tower manufacturers separately. This gives the
boat buyer more options. People with older boats can work with independent
installers or even install the towers themselves.
