Wake boards
Wakeboards are pulled by motor boats over the surface
of a body of water at speeds ranging from 18-24 miles per hour. Wakeboard
riders can jump higher and turn faster than with any other water sport
board. The boards have fixed bindings for each foot. The wakeboard rider
stands sideways as if on a skateboard.
Wakeboards are comprised of foam mixed with resin and coated with fiberglass.
Bindings and fins are attached with metal screws. The layout and types
of fins and bindings are based on the wakeboarder’s preference.
Shallow fins, for instance, are better for surface tricks. Beginners
generally set up the bindings so that their dominant foot is placed
forward.
Beginners are better off choosing wakeboards that are light and hence
easy to manage. For more stability, pick a large board with large fins.
A smaller board would cause more water resistance and drag. This would
tire out a new wakeboarder unnecessarily.
