Wakeboard bindings
Wakeboard bindings are the holds which keep the rider
attached to the board. Boards and binding plates have many different
holes drilled into them so that you can easily change the angle and
position of the bindings. It is important to have your bindings/boots
set up correctly to maintain comfort while wakeboarding as well as to
match your skill level. Bindings should be tight enough that you can
balance and control the board. However, if they are too tight they will
tire you out and may cause injury as your legs will remain attached
to board as you fall.
The first step to configuring your wakeboard bindings is to determine
your stance. Your dominant foot should be your forwardmost foot. If
you do not know which foot this is, ask someone to push you from behind.
Whichever foot you instinctively use to catch yourself is your dominant
foot.
Once you’ve identified which foot goes forward you’re ready
to set up your wakeboard bindings. A beginner to wakeboarding would
be best-suited having their bindings set at just a shoulder width apart.
Your back binding should be closer to the rear fin to optimize navigation
and control. Your back foot should be set at about zero degrees so that
it is straight across the board. Your front foot should be set pointing
forward anywhere from 15-27 degrees. This stance helps for learning
deepwater starts, forward riding, turning, and very basic jumps.
